ROMIOSINI - www.greece.org/romiosini
=====================================
-Romiosni has a New Icon Gallery from some Icons I received
from Cyprus. There is also a new chapter 6, and Chris and Thanassi have
edited error in the intro chapter and the fall of Constantinople chapter. I
am preparing the chapter on the golden age of Romiosini for two weeks.
The last (and most academically controversial) chapter is going to take a
few more months of reading; it is very delicate, Ancient greece and the
effect on Greek orthodoxy.

CHC

-The Canadian Hellenic Congress pages have been revised with some
new information as well.

The Hellenic Studies Center has lost complete touch from me.

PATRIARCHATE (ALEXANDRIA SUB-PROJECT www.greece.org/alexander)
---------------------------------
This project will be eventually a very large project connecting all
Greek Communities in Africa through the Patriarchate of Alexandria.

Through the kind work of Sue Mantouvalos, George Coutsoumis, Fr.
Alexandros in Alexandria, Egypt and the blessing of the Patriarch on our
project, I have received 75 pages of information pertaining to the
Orthodox Church in Africa. Some of the information is outdated but the
people mentioned above are working to bring it up to date. Translation
of the pages is important but due to its nature it has to be done by
persons with knowledge of ecclesiastical titles and nomenclature.

Chris is working on the graphics of the Patriarchate Seal, and later on
other graphics suitable for this very serious and important project.

Sample pages will be posted within the next few days for critique. It is
important that all material, graphics and presentations be cleared by
the Patriarchate before go on the net, in order to maintain this good
relationship.

Work is progressing well, and cooperation and relationship with people
involved is at high level.

PROJECTS (www.greece.org/projects)
===========================
There have been several major developments in Projects in recent weeks.

1) We have accepted two already-existing projects and placed them on the
HEC web site. These projects are: The Parthenon Marbles and Greek Lessons.
We are also in the process of translating the Parthenon Marbles into Greek.
There are currently English and French language versions of the site on the
Internet.

2) Alexandria. We have been approached to work on an enormous project on
the theme of Alexandria. This will be dealt with in a separate report.

3) In preparation for the work on Alexandria we have appointed a second
person to work in Projects, Michalis Exarchos.

4) I have started compiling a list of people willing to help in translating
material from either English into Greek or Greek into English. If you would
be willing to help out with translation work, please send me your name and
email address and I will add you to the list. When the Alexandria project
gets going there will be a fair amount to translate if we are to have the
site in both English and Greek.

ALEXANDRIA (www.greece.org/alexander)
=====================================
You should all have had at least one posting explaining the origins of the
Alexandria Project so I will not repeat that information. Instead I shall
explain what the current situation is with the various sub-projects.

1. The Hellenic Community in Alexandria (EKA). A text has been prepared and
is being worked on by the people in Alexandria and Malcolm Wright of HEC
who will be preparing the web page.

2. The Alexander the Great School of Archaeological and Hellenic Studies.
So far there are in existence only a few photos of the school. We are
waiting for the Aleandrians to produce a text. Malcolm Wright of HEC is
also responsible for turning this part of the project into web pages.

3. The Patriarchate of Alexandria and All-Africa. George Rigos has a
75-page text which he is working on at present. He needs help translating
name places and official titles from Greek into English. Anyone who can
help should contact him. Work on designing the web pages for this
sub-project is already well underway.

4. Alexander the Great in Egypt.
This sub-project has itself a number of sub-projects. We have written to
King's College, London, inviting them to take on the sub-project related to
the Ancient Library at Alexandria. We have also written to the University
of Western Australia inviting them to choose a sub-project. When we hear
from these two universities we will be in a position to offer sub-projects
to those who are interested. The four sub-projects so far proposed are:
The Library
The Lighthouse
The Search for Alexander's Tomb
Alexander in Egypt.

There has been a suggestion that we could add science and mathematics in
Ancient Alexandria.

Help will be needed to research pages, find illustrations, sort out
copyright issues, write pages, do the html coding and graphics and
translate the pages into Greek or English. As soon as we are able to
proceed, I will mail all those who have expressed interest and invite them
to participate. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, please
notify me.
