2005 District Convention Update

At its annual Convention on May 21, 2005 in Tinton Falls, NJ, the John G. Thevos District of AHEPA in New Jersey and Delaware elected its new District Lodge for the coming year. The newly elected Members of the District Lodge and their home chapters are:

Governor George Karatzia (Holmdel),
Lieutenant Governor Ted Vittas (Ramapo),
Secretary Chris Diamantoukos (Cherry Hill),
Treasurer Ted Fanikos (Trenton),
Marshall Phil Vogis (Ramapo),
Warden Peter Sideris (Morris County).
Subsequently appointed were the offices of:
Athletic Director, Andy Hios (Paramus),
Sons of Pericles Advisor, Steve Xanthacos (Ocean County).

At the convention banquet the outgoing District Governor Steve Xanthacos announced the recipient of the "Ahepan of the Year" award. It went to Savas Tsivicos of the Asbury Park chapter. Receiving the award for "Outstanding President" was Ted Fanikos, President of Trentong #72. The award for "Outstanding Secretary" went to Gus Horiatis, Secretary of Camden #69. The "Chapter of the Year Award" went to Ramapo Chapter #453 of Wyckoff, NJ. The Past District Governors presented the annual Homeric Award to PDG Herb Allen.

The keynote speaker at the banquet was Supreme Vice President Gus James, an attorney from Virginia Beach, VA. Also representing the Supreme Lodge was Supreme Governor Anthony Drakos outside of Pittsburgh, PA. The dais also included Ahepan and NJ Assemblyman Steve Corodemus. (Republican of Monmouth County). The weekend began with a first ever Casino Night on Friday evening. It was a spirited affair, attended by over 100 members of the AHEPA Family. The gaming went on well past midnight. Chairman of the convention was PDG Andre Zachariades, who ran a very orderly meeting and finished on time. The convention was a combined effort between Ocean County Chapter #467 of Toms River and Garden State Chapter #517 of Holmdel. The convention brought to an end the administration of Steve Xanthacos. Steve realized a 10% increase in membership and put together many programs including a cultural and educational program and 2 regional workshops. Also ending their term was Stelios Kodopidis of Ocean County #467 who serverd as District Warden and Sons of Pericles Advisor. Also leaving the Lodge as District Marshal is Bill Nikolis of Holmdel #517, formerly Morris County #300 and Nick Mariolis of Eureka #52 who served as Athletic Director.
