The Alexander the Great School
of Archaeological and Classical Studies
Alexandria, Egypt.

Since time immemorial, Alexandria, Egypt, has known an Hellenic presence - a presence which has had a profound effect upon the city, its life, its society, its history - an effect which can still be seen and felt today.

From the wonders of the ancient world, such as the lighthouse and the ancient library, to the excavation of priceless archaeological relics buried all around us. From the foundation of the first Patriarchate by Saint Mark, to the present-day Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, H.B. Petros VII. From Alexander the Great to Constantine Cavafy, and to the Hellenic community which remains today.

The Hellenic Community of Alexandria (EKA) believes that this Hellenic presence should be preserved and that the cultural ties between Egypt and the Hellenes should be strengthened.

To this end we propose that a School of Archaeological and Classical Studies bearing the name "Alexander the Great" be founded in Alexandria.

The buildings of the last Greek Quarter of Chatby, Alexandria stand as a monument to the greatness of the Hellenic past and the creative, philanthropic and altruistic nature of the Hellenic Community. It is these buildings, entirely owned by EKA, which we propose be renovated and put once again to a practical and creative purpose.

We would like to offer students, academics and researchers a home within the Greek Quarter of Chatby and invite interested parties to submit their ideas and suggestions.
