[These are the comments and feedback given by the participants of the Directors Preamble Workshop that took place on Friday, February 12 in Onatario, California]
Here are the comments and questions asked by the directors in the order they were written.
Phoenix: Their feelings regarding workshop in general is that they have never worked and are like a square peg in a round hole. They would prefer to have a costume workshop or dance workshop. There was a unanimous vote by all directors that they want the preamble workshop to quit unless changed.
Elaine Pepares: She felt that directors voices are not being heard and that we need a Directors workshop that will encourage questions and answers All directors were in agreement.
Loula Moschonas: She felt that the priest workshop went well. San Fransisco: Priests workshop did not go well and feel directors need to meet with Judges. Commented that the best workshops were in Seattle and Phoenix where dialogue with priests was best.
Fr. Chris Flesoras Belmont: Wants to know what role is expected of priests. Phoenix: Proposed that the judges format be changed. so that not all judges judge all aspects of the competion only their speciallty.
Long Beach : Responded they felt that would not be fair.
Edmonton, Alaska: They want us to streamline our registration technique. Too confusing. and takes too long.
Long Beach: Comments regarding Choir Competion were directed to the fact that it adds to the pressure of the directors and should not be mandatory. Everyone agreed that it should not be mandatory.
Oakland: Felt strongly that church hymns should not be in competion. Also do not schedule dance groups from same communities at the same time. It makes it difficule for the directors in the event they are also dancing.
Sacramento: Opening ceremonies was very dissappointing. They want the parade of the dancers and was voted by the directors to do so next year.
Fresno: George Pappangelin: Felt focus should be on the children. Saw disrespect of the audience leaving during program because registration openned.
Modesto: Agreed that the opening ceremony should be for the dancers and their families. Did not like jugglers and don't feel the need for paid entertainment when we can focus on our dancers and welcome everyone as kickoff for the weekend. Saw poor attendance as a result of no parade.
Concord: Discussed concern about the hostility regarding competition among the dancers and communities. We need to get back to basics. Also, better communications needs to be imporved. They feel the public voice in not heard.
San Jose: Commications has major problems. Also, average age group categories are confusing. Please HIGHLIGHT all changes to rules in directors manuals .
Sacramento: Do not understand many of the changes. Also wants the parade of dancers in the opening ceremonies.
Modesto: How Many directors info pkgs. are sent out and what list is used. the current or last years?
Phoenix: Commented that the Thursday night directors meeting was not handled very well. They were disrespectful and not effedftive in disfusing the anger of those in attendance.
Oakland: When groups are put on probation, they should be notified immediately and not three months later. The meeting was closed with hopes that there are more directors meetings in which they can offer suggestions and ask questions which will be answered
