There are three genders in modern Greek : masculine, feminine and neuter. The gender of a noun can be recognized by its ending.

First declension

The first declension includes masculine nouns in - and - and feminine in - and -.

Imparisyllabic nouns

These nouns are characterized by one more syllable in the plural than they have in the singular. Many of the nouns of this group are of foreign origin.
