PONTUS
According to Hesiod, Earth first gave birth to Pontus (Sea) and then after she lay with Uranus she bare Oceanus. Apollodorus, on the other hand, says that to Pontus and Earth were born Phorcys, Thaumas, Nereus, Eurybia and Ceto. Some writers identify Pontus with Oceanus whereas some others identify him with the Mediterranean Sea.
