Eleni Bomi was born in Montreal
of Greek immigrant parents. She graduated from McGill Univeristy in 1980 with a
Joint Honors in French Language and Litterature & Classics. Her supervisor for
modern and ancient Greek was Dr. Anne Farmakides. Subsequently she obtained a
Diploma of Education for Elementary Education from the Faculty of Education at McGill
University.
She was married and began teaching Greek as an elective to High
School students from 1981-1986 at which point she resigned with the pregnancy of
her third child. Eleni Bomi had a fourth child and in 1996 began a
second undergraduate degree at UQAM in Sciences juridiques. She graduated with
a LL.B in 2001. She has since worked as a Court Translator and Interpretor and
completed a 2 term contract at an elementary school.
Currently, she is working
for an Engineering firm while working on translations. Eleni was happy to volunteer
for Hellenic Electronic Center (HEC) as early as Fall
2001 by helping compile the parliamentarian List for the Halki and Cyprus
Petitions. She has collected paper petitions, done countless hours of research
for the Hellenic Genocide, collaborated with
the Fundraising Committee in sending our HEC proposals to major Sponsors and helps with
the annual HEC Fundraising efforts. She was nominated HEC Secretary in 2005 and has
since managed some of the most important correspondances. She is pleasantly
opiniated and tremendously cooperative.
