Introduction

The tireless and talented volunteers who have contributed to the success of Poseidon, have created an extensive repository of valuable and unique information on the subject of Hellas and the Sea.

We strongly believe that optimization of Poseidon's educational value should be the most important aspect of our activities. Our goals are to transfer research and teaching themes to the school setting, to develop and make educational materials more accessible to schools, teachers and their students, and to foster collaboration with organizations which also promote educational activities.

As technology enters our homes and classrooms, students have easier access to the internet and its resources. The Poseidon Program on Education combines teaching and technology, while it presents material not otherwise readily accessible. It is interactive, and interdisciplinary in nature, and it creates an interface between the academic environment, a multitude of educational organizations and institutions, museums, and the community.

Curriculum modules

Each curriculum module helps teachers and their students to explore various themes. The modules can be used to support research activities, to foster good study habits, to emphasize group work, discussion, and exchange of ideas. As students examine interesting issues presented in the modules, they strengthen and enhance their own abilities in problem solving and critical thinking.

Sample modules can be designed to aid teachers in introducing students to subjects such as:

  1. Navigating through the Greek islands

  2. The art and architecture of the Cyclades

  3. Life on a Greek island
