The capital of the prefecture of Rodopi, Komotini, is the seat of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, administrative center of Thrace and home of the Democritus University of Thrace. Komotini is a modern urban center which is in continuous development in all sectors.

As at May 14 every year is celebrated in Komotini the Liberal of Thrace, which include a number of events with dominant feature traditional dances, involving dance groups from all over Greece and abroad.
