AHEPA Celebrates 100 Years at Disney World

2022 marks the Order of AHEPA’s 100th Birthday, and to celebrate, AHEPA is taking us back to the happiest place on earth, the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida! Pack up your families and bring plenty of sunscreen to join the AHEPA in this once in a lifetime celebration of a century of service! (See Brochure below).

We at the Hellenic Electronic Center and our project Greece in Epcot are in full support of AHEPA and its traditions for Hellenism. An important component of AHEPA’s mission is to create an awareness of the principles of Hellenism to society. These principles include a commitment to humanity, freedom, and democracy.

These are the exact causes for our project Greece in Epcot, and signing our petition will help to fulfil our goal.

What is AHEPA

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) is by far the largest Greek-American organization. Its scope is international – with chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece and Cyprus and sister chapters in Australia and New Zealand. AHEPA was founded July 26, 1922, in Atlanta, Georgia, by visionary Americans of Greek descent to protect Hellenes from the evils of bigotry and to help assimilate them into American society in the early 20th Century. Although a majority of the membership is composed of Americans of Hellenic descent, application for membership is open to everyone who believes in the mission of the organization.

We thank the following media channels very much for running articles in support of our effort entitled, Epcot in Greece.

Epcot in Greece is a Hellenic Electronic Center project/campaign to raise public awareness and to collect signatures, thus captivating Walt Disney World’s attention to the request of having Greece be the next country added to EPCOT’s World Showcase!

EPCOT’s World Showcase is a kaleidoscope of nations’ pavilions, which feature authentic buildings and backdrops celebrating cultural heritage, arts and entertainment including food courts. There are 11 nations in total on site in Orlando, Florida, but Greece is not!

A time for Greek pride

Happy 87th Birthday to Donald Duck!   But Mickey is rather angry right now. He needs everyone to participate in our effort!

We started this effort 2 years ago, to bring a  “Greece Pavilion” in Disney World.  So far we have collected 2,600 signatures but we are targeting many many more. We are counting on you.
How?  There are over 15 million Greeks globally, and millions more Philhellenes.
So, let’s do it. Let our Philotimo shine.
Be supportive by signing the petition. It only takes one minute!

Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida is the most visited theme park in the world and currently has 11 countries in its World Showcase in EPCOT. Greece is not included! Do we need to remind everyone of Greece’s historical resume? Currently there are rumors swirling that Russia and Brazil will be starting petitions as well to get Disney Imagineers attention that their countries deserve pavilions. Space is limited to only 6 more pavilions. In the 1980’s Greece was in line for a pavilion but in true fashion, the Greeks dropped the ball.

So if you’re a fan of Walt Disney and are truly proud of your Greek heritage please go to www.greece.org/epcot and sign our petition and share it with your family and friends and let’s show our Greek pride! Let’s be the first country to band together and make a unified statement that the Greeks deserve a Pavilion in Disney World!

Happy Birthday Mickey

Happy Birthday, Mickey Mouse!

That’s right, the little mouse recognized all over the world celebrates his birthday on November 18. Artists who have drawn Mickey through the years have referred to him as Walt Disney’s “alter ego” and have said he “represents the world of animation.”
