We are a group of volunteers working for the Hellenic Electronic Center (HEC) www.greece.org on this EPCOT project. Our mission is to raise public awareness, collect signatures, and thus bring attention to Walt Disney World that Greece should be the next country added to EPCOT’s World Showcase! [1]
A lot of you globally are probably asking yourselves what exactly is EPCOT and what is the World Showcase?
EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) is one of 4 parks in Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Walt Disney World is an entertainment Theme Park complex that opened on October 1, 1971 and the property covers nearly 25,000 acres. The park comprises four theme parks (consisting of Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), two water parks, 27 themed resort hotels, nine non-Disney hotels, several golf courses, a camping resort, and other entertainment venues.
EPCOT’s World Showcase is a kaleidoscope of nations that feature authentic buildings and backdrops celebrating cultural heritage, arts and entertainment. There are 11 nations in total. Those countries are : Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, United States, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, and Canada.
Currently there are 8 spots left for countries to be present in the World Showcase. Our effort is to nominate Greece as the next country to be inducted in EPCOT.
Greece’s achievements are second to none… The most important areas of Greek achievement are psychology, astronomy, geometry, biology, physics, medicine, philosophy, theatre, democracy, the Olympics and the list goes on and on…. So why with such and amazing resume is Greece not in the World Showcase yet?
Well, years ago when Disney World was constructing the World Showcase the countries had to pay for their own pavilions but now Disney World is in the midst of a multi billion dollar expansion and is rumored to be adding more countries shortly. So we are reaching out to all Greeks and Philhellenes (admirers of Greece, Greeks and our culture) globally for your signature in our petition to get Disney’s attention.
With all of us together we can be one voice to get our rightful place in Walt Disney World!
